zero to sixty in two petitions.

USPIRG provides a petition with which you may express your desire, if it is indeed a desire you share, that Congress's next six-year transportation bill doubles funding for public transportation. Even though gas prices put more and more of us on buses and trains, we don't always tell Congress what we want when we think of it. I think Thomas Jefferson explained why we do things like that in the Declaration of Independence. So thank God for USPIRG in this instance.

An organization called Take Back the Filter provides a petition with which you may express your desire, et cetera, that Clorox (the owner of Brita) take back Brita filters when we're done using them, so they don't end up in landfills. The petition is an unusually fine example of the form, by the way. Brita filters could conceivably be redesigned to be more reusable at home (says the Sierra Club), or they could be collected and reused by the parent company, as Brita's parent company in Europe already does. There are always options for corporations willing to be creative.
